New Starter: Anda, Our Recruitment Consultant

We spoke to new starter, Anda about her role as Recruitment Consultant at YourCode.

What is a Recruitment Consultant?

Recruiting mostly involves sourcing candidates in different IT roles ranging from junior to senior; communicating with those candidates and developing good relationships with them. I would like candidates to think that they can turn to me at any time in the recruitment process if they have any queries or concerns.

How did you come to be a Recruitment Consultant at YourCode?

I studied Business Psychology at Riseba University in Latvia. Whilst studying I worked as a game presenter and I asked the managers if I could move to the HR office to gain some practical experience to support my studies. Whilst this involved dealing with different roles to the positions I specialise in now, it was my first experience in recruitment.

In 2020, I started work with a recruitment agency and began recruiting for IT roles. I found this to be really interesting and enjoyed the variety of roles. I used Google and YouTube to independently research and develop my knowledge of the technology sector.

Are there any other experiences that shaped your career development?

In my second year at university, I participated in an exchange program for 6 months in Spain. I gained a different view of the world and where I want to be in life. I loved the Spanish culture and how relaxed it was. It was difficult to study in another country but an amazing experience and it gave me much more confidence in my English skills.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career in recruitment?

After gaining experience in different positions and sectors I would definitely recommend others to do the same to see the different sides to recruitment before focusing on what you’re interested in. For example, I learned that I really enjoy sourcing. Don’t be shy; try everything!

What advice would you give someone interested in a career in the technology sector?

It’s a really great time to join the technology sector because the field is booming. There are so many opportunities available.

I would say, try to make your CV stand out. Use animation, design and colour to express yourself. For example, one of my candidates once created a website as his CV. It was really interesting and memorable and showcased his abilities. It also showed that he was innovative and ready to think outside the box.

What key skills are essential in your position?

I communicate with a lot of people from different countries on a daily basis so it’s important to have an open mind. You need to be friendly and approachable and actually be interested in helping people rather than thinking solely about how the candidate can benefit you.

What makes YourCode a great place to work? Why is it different?

I love the fresh, enthusiastic energy of the company! Everyone in the team is excited about the company and the work. The directors are flexible and open to new ideas and new people. It’s a great place and a perfect match for me!

What does the future hold for the world of technology recruitment?

The technology sector is booming and while that creates new opportunities, it also presents some challenges. As technology companies need more and more specialists, specialist recruiters are needed more than ever. It’s important to show how you as a recruiter can meet those needs best and I think that’s something we’re doing well here at YourCode.
