Meet the Team: Julia, Our IT Recruitment Consultant

We spoke to IT Recruitment Consultant, Julia about her role at YourCode.


What is an IT Recruitment Consultant?

Basically, as an IT Recruitment Consultant, I connect candidates to clients in the IT industry and support candidates during their job change.


How did you come to be IT Recruitment Consultant at YourCode?

I studied maths at university and I thought that I would be a data specialist. I realised I wanted a break from maths, however, and tried recruitment for a new challenge. I found I liked the contact with people and pursued it as a career. 


I was an IT recruiter in my previous company for two years before joining YourConsultancy Group but I wanted to improve my English skills. At YourCode, I have daily contact with candidates whilst communicating in English so I would definitely say that I’m meeting this ambition. 


What advice would you give someone interested in a career in recruitment?

There are many opportunities for IT recruiters right now so I would say just try to apply. 


There is no one direct path I think; I started from a research position which was a great experience for me to gain an understanding of the responsibilities of a recruiter. If you start from a basic role and improve, there are many possibilities.


How have you developed in the role?

Since joining YourCode my confidence in English has improved and is improving still. 


It’s not just that though, contact with candidates makes me learn something new every day because they’ll often talk about everything except their job change! I like it though, I enjoy talking to lots of different people, it’s one of the best parts of the job.


What key skills are essential in your position?

Because it’s quite a people-centred job, I would say being a good communicator and being open-minded is important because you will work with a wide range of people every day.


I think it’s also important to remember that the decision to change jobs isn’t often an easy one and so it’s up to you to be supportive to help candidates.


What makes YourCode a great place to work? Why is it different?

I feel support from every team member – everybody welcomed me so warmly and are so helpful if I ever have any questions or difficulties. It’s surprising how close contact feels despite working entirely remotely in another country. I feel listened to; I’m not just instructed to do tasks but asked my opinion on things.


Can you describe a typical day in the office?

Since I work fully remote from Poland – I’ve never actually been in the office! I love working remotely because I like to sleep and appreciate the extra time to snooze afforded by the fact that I don’t have to commute! It’s also very helpful to work in the Polish time zone with our international clients and candidates.


What does the future hold for the world of Technology recruitment?

I think like in every sector, automation will play a large role in the future job market. In recruitment though, there are many skills required that only a human can perform – recruiters can’t be entirely replaced by robots.


What exciting things are on the horizon for YourCode?

I think what’s exciting is that it’s so unpredictable!
